Various OTT platforms have gained momentum in revenue and subscribers due to high-quality data broadcasting and internet penetration. Netflix and Amazon Prime are some of the leading OTT platforms, along with Disney + Hotstar. The quarterly earnings of Disney plus Hotstar in 2023-24 are seeing an upward trend after a dip during Q3 2023 due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. However, after the strike was called off, earnings started steadily climbing in the following quarters. Disney plus Hotstar has around 153.8 million subscribers across the globe by the end of 2024. The platform is primarily used on personal computers, with 61.7% of users accessing it via. their desktops. However, 38.8% of users use their smartphones to view content on Disney + Hotstar. The app is also more popular in suburban areas, where 45% of the users hail, compared to 38% in urban areas.
According to Disney + Hotstar statistics, the platform has around 7,000 TV episodes and 500 movies in the library. These shows and films are popular mainly among male audiences, which constitute 63.52% of the viewership, while the female user base makes up 36.48% of the total subscriber count.
The online entertainment market has witnessed robust growth due to the unrestricted subjects and content for every age group. It also offers the convenience of watching quality content at home without the need to go outside, which is the major driving factor for the expansion of the online entertainment market. By region, North America dominated the global market. At the same time, Asia Pacific and Europe witnessed substantial growth rates due to technological advancements in broadcasting high-quality video data and penetration of the internet across the globe.
